Do You Need Passport For Domestic Flights?
Migrants must consider:
Will I need a passport for domestic flights?
At present, flying domestically within the US does not require a passport – you can use your driver’s license or state ID instead. But starting May 3, 2023, DHS’ REAL ID Act will go into effect and all travelers must present valid identification at airport security checkpoints.
Why Is Immigration Difficult? Every year, millions of migrants flee their home countries in search of safety and a better life – yet once in another country they find that once there, many hurdles such as language barriers or forms of discrimination await them.
Migrants typically prefer passports as the primary form of identification; however, other options may be less costly and more suitable to their circumstances, including:
Passport card or book A passport card (or book) is similar to a passport but designed specifically for air travel, valid within the US and certain parts of North America such as Canada.
Passport Book (or Passport)
A standard passport is a multi-page document containing personal data and photo. Usually valid for 10 years.
You can obtain your passport at either your local passport office or embassy, or you can apply by mail.
Cost for passport applications will depend on which agency you visit; new applications take approximately 8-11 weeks for processing.
