Assuming you have lived in North Carolina for some time, proving your identity should not be too challenging if you wish to obtain a Real-ID compliant driver’s license or ID card. Requirements include two documents showing full name and date of birth along with one demonstrating Social Security number; proof of your current address in North Carolina such as utility bills, vehicle registration forms, voter precinct cards or veteran’s forms as well as documentation showing you are either a U.S. citizen, legal resident, or not eligible for Social Security numbers

As with other states, getting a Real ID in NC is a straightforward process if you meet all requirements. Simply visit a DMV office with your existing license/ID card and two proofs of residency as acceptable documents – plus there’s even an interactive wizard on their website to guide the way!

However, having access to Real ID may not always be feasible – especially for migrant workers who fear state driver’s license agencies will share their personal data with immigration authorities or that police officers and state agency employees may contact ICE when encountering people carrying marked IDs.
