How to Get a REAL ID in Pennsylvania

As the deadline for getting a REAL ID nears, state officials are encouraging residents of Pennsylvania to secure their documentation as quickly as possible.

Residents will need several documents in order to comply with the law and obtain a REAL ID from PennDOT, including: (1) Proof of Identity such as an original or certified copy of their birth certificate filed with their state office of vital records or valid U.S. Passport/Passport card (2) Proof of Residency such as two forms that demonstrate your current address such as two standard-issue driver’s licenses/photo ID cards with photo identification capabilities AND auto insurance certificates (3) A Social Security card in their current name

Residents in Pennsylvania can determine their eligibility to obtain a REAL ID online or in person, with applications taking up to 15 business days for processing. Anyone unsure about their eligibility can visit one of 13 locations throughout the state for help assessing it.
