How to Get Drivers License Online For Immigrants

New York offers two approaches for obtaining a drivers license: either applying for a standard driver’s license – available to all NY citizens; or choosing between REAL IDs (available only to legal U.S. residents) or standard licenses depending on your immigration status and individual preference.

Start the process for getting a drivers license by gathering documents to show your eligibility in New York, such as proof of your social security number (or that you do not qualify), employment authorization documents, and proof that you have lived here at least 12 months.

In some instances, you will also need to provide evidence that you have passed a driving test or completed a pre-licensing course.
