How to Obtain a New Driving Licence
If you are new to the United States as either an immigrant or migrant, chances are at some point or another you will require a new driving license. This could be for any number of reasons including accidents, theft or being defrauded by unscrupulous taxi drivers; here we provide you with a step by step guide and infographic to assist with this process.
Most states follow similar procedures when it comes to obtaining a new driving license, although certain states differ slightly in requirements. New York, for instance, mandates you complete a five-hour pre-licensing course and pass both written and road tests before they will issue you with an NY State driver’s license. You will also need valid identification documents like pay stubs or utility bills and bank statements as proof of identity as well as your previous driver’s license from home country along with any additional relevant documents specified by your state.
Keep in mind that if your license has been suspended or revoked, you won’t be able to obtain a new one. For any inquiries related to this matter, reach out to your local DMV for further information. Additionally, if you would like to upgrade from standard ID status to REAL ID or Enhanced ID status you’ll have to visit one of the offices personally as these types of documentation need to be scanned in and approved by an employee at the DMV office.
