The Dangers of Using a Fake Driver License and Passport

College underclassmen often rely on fake IDs – borrowed from older siblings or purchased through sketchy online sites – in order to purchase alcohol, which can lead to serious legal repercussions including fines and jail time. Criminals use the fake ID industry for various illicit purposes such as cyber fraud, identity theft, human trafficking and even terrorist acts.

Why Is Migrating Difficult?

California law stipulates that possessing a fake ID with your maiden name displayed can result in misdemeanor charges if you legally changed to your married name at a government agency or court. But in other states it could constitute more serious charges such as forgery or impersonation.

Florida law holds that anyone caught using a false ID without updating records can face serious felony charges; otherwise it’s considered misdemeanors where punishment will be determined by a judge. If this false identity was used in more serious crimes then additional federal charges will likely follow.
