There Are No Driving Tests Available
The government has indicated its aim of clearing away the driving test backlog within months; however, MPs have expressed alarm that learner drivers could face waits of up to 24 weeks before being tested for driving licenses.
Learners have had a difficult year. Due to limited test slots available at test centres, many have faced long waits at testing centres requiring test slots for placement testing. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has been working hard to alleviate this backlog of work for testing centres.
Test candidates can locate available test dates by using the DVSA’s online booking service and clicking ‘find test centres’. There are currently 620,000 practical test appointments in the system.
Once you’ve located your ideal test center, contact them and make an appointment – their telephone lines are open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday with local rates being applied for costs.
As traffic regulations and requirements can be complex, having a strong knowledge base is paramount to passing your test. To prepare, it is wise to maintain driving lessons regularly while practising your road skills regularly.
How to book a test
The DVSA only releases test slots every six weeks or so through their online booking system; therefore it’s wise to stay on course with your driving lessons as test dates may become available at short notice.
What to Expect on Your Driving Test
In order to take the practical driving exam, first you’ll have to pass a road rules and road signs test. This examination measures your skills in handling a vehicle in traffic conditions while testing your knowledge of road signs and rules as well as your attitude toward driving – you will be asked questions regarding traffic signals as well as handling yourself in stressful driving scenarios.
